Teal Talk Day is dedicated to the terrible disease of ovarian cancer. According to statistics, every year it is diagnosed in 250 thousand women in the world. It is a frightening figure and makes us act – to gather annually and talk about the disease, to undergo an examination. Of course, this dangerous disease requires attention every day of the year.
History
Teal Talk Day was established by the Ovarcome Ovarian Cancer Foundation. The mission of the holiday is to raise women’s awareness of the disease and motivate them to talk about it. Every woman should be aware of the symptoms, methods of prevention, and treatment. Knowledge can save lives. Unfortunately, ovarian cancer is a hidden disease and does not manifest itself for many years, but this is another reason to talk about it.
Facts about ovarian cancer
- In many cases, ovarian cancer begins with a change in the cells located in the fallopian tubes.
- One of the causes of this cancer is aging. More than half of patients with this diagnosis are older than 63 years.
- Women who were pregnant and gave birth to a child or take contraceptives are less susceptible to the disease.
- To confirm the diagnosis, the doctor needs a biopsy. The disease can also be diagnosed by a blood test (a high level of the CA-125 protein indirectly indicates ovarian cancer).
How to take part
Read more literature and communicate with doctors about the disease. Every woman must know about it in order to support her friends, colleagues, and relatives. Support an organization that does research into ovarian cancer, either financially or by volunteering.
