National Virginia Day

National Virginia Day was created to explore the history of this picturesque state of America. It is celebrated annually on September 14th. On this day, solemn events are held, and people can get to know the traditions of the peoples who have lived on this land for more than two centuries.

In 1607, the town of Jamestown was formed on the territory of this modern state. It became the first British colony on the North American continent. The use of indigenous slave labor and fertile land led to the rapid economic development of the colony, but also contributed to tensions within society. In 1776, it joined the USA.

The Civil War led to the secession of many states. Among them was Virginia, whose government supported the actions of the Confederacy. However, the northern districts did not support such a decision, and in 1863 they merged into West Virginia. Only in 1870 did the state again become a full-fledged part of the United States.

In 2007, Virginia celebrated 400 years since the formation of the first colony, which marked the beginning of the state. Since then, every year on September 14, various events have been held to allow people to connect with the rich history of the state and, perhaps, learn some new facts.
