National Pizza Day

National Pizza Day is an annual American celebration dedicated to pizza. Celebrated annually on February 9th. Pizza is one of the most popular food in the world. It is also consumed as a daily dish, but most often ordered for various corporate and festive events.

History

Filled flatbreads became the progenitor of the dish that today we call pizza. They were distributed in the era of Antiquity: in Rome, Egypt, Greece. Almost unchanged, they reached the 1800s.

At the beginning of the 19th century, there were a large number of poor people in Naples who spent most of their time in hard, low-paid work. To restore their strength, they prepared cakes that were stuffed with cheese, tomatoes, butter, and so on. A dish called lazzaroni became the basis of the future pizza.

The next significant event in the history of the appearance of pizza occurred in 1889. King Umberto I visited Naples with his wife and he liked the taste of lazzaroni. At a local establishment, he tried a mozzarella pie. Today it is known as “pizza margherita”.

The spread of pizza in the United States occurred in the 1940s, when Italian migrants poured into America. Around that time, she became similar to her today’s version. There were a variety of fillings. A variety of ingredients were layered on the round-shaped dough, after which the dish was baked. Pizza has become an integral part of our lives and today we are celebrating National Pizza Day to prove it!
