Umbrella Cover Day

July 6th is Umbrella Cover Day, specifically to make people pay attention to everyday things around them. Umbrella cases and covers protect against dust, wear and tear, and moths. In addition, it is most convenient to carry umbrellas in covers right after the rain, when they are completely wet.

History

Umbrella Cover Day was created in 2014 by Nancy Z. Hoffman with a purpose. She decided this celebration was necessary to celebrate the story behind the cover, as well as encourage her to keep her spirits up by digging out umbrella covers from the bottom of drawers. This unusual holiday, according to its creator, honors simple, everyday things.

• In ancient Egypt, Persia, and India, umbrellas were used 4000 years ago to protect from the sun;
• Waterproof paper umbrellas are invented in the XI century BC in China. The water-repellent features are due to a coating of wax and varnish;
• Student Slava Horowitz in 1929 created a prototype of modern folding umbrellas, but the first patent for folding umbrellas was filed in 1969 by Bradford E. Phillips;
• The Umbrella Case Museum on Peaks Island in Portland, Maine, was opened in 1996 by Nancy Z. Hoffman;

The best celebration of Umbrella Cover Day is to cover all the umbrellas in the house with special covers so that they last longer and come in handy on a rainy day. To find covers in cabinets, on shelves, and in bedside tables; you can quickly come up with a separate place just for them.
