Herb Day

Herb Day is an annual American holiday dedicated to herbs. These unique herbal ingredients have been used for centuries to treat various ailments. Today, in addition to medical applications, herbs are considered to be excellent spices, a great addition to fish and meat dishes, salads, soups and even desserts! The holiday is celebrated on the first Saturday in May.

History

The story of Herb Day began in 2006 with an initiative by the HerbDay Coalition. This organization sought to educate more people about the benefits of herbs. In particular, thanks to its efforts, the trust in herbs has increased considerably. Herbal ingredients began to be more actively used in the preparation of medicinal infusions and the use of plants themselves for the treatment of various diseases.

The practice of herbalism was actively used in the ancient world. It even survived into the Middle Ages, but at that time herbalists were often persecuted for accusations of witchcraft, mysticism, and other things. Today, medicine is highly developed, but the practice of herbal medicine has not gone anywhere. It still needs to be approached responsibly in order not to harm yourself, but the fact of its effectiveness cannot be denied.

Interesting facts

  • Two herbal ingredients are most often used to create sweet dishes: vanilla and cinnamon.
