Herb Day - May
Sat, May 3, 2025

Herb Day is an annual American holiday dedicated to herbs. These unique natural ingredients have been used for centuries to treat various ailments. Today, in addition to their medicinal applications, herbs are considered excellent spices and are a great addition to fish, meat dishes, salads, soups, and even desserts! The holiday is observed on the first Saturday in May each year.

History

Herb Day was first celebrated in 2006, thanks to an initiative by the HerbDay Coalition. This organization aimed to educate more people about the benefits of herbs. Due to its efforts, public trust in herbal remedies has significantly increased. Herbal ingredients are now more commonly used in the preparation of medicinal infusions, and plants themselves are still employed for treating various ailments.

Herbalism was widely practiced in the ancient world and even survived into the Middle Ages. However, during that time, herbalists were often persecuted for accusations of witchcraft and mysticism. Today, while modern medicine has advanced significantly, the practice of herbal medicine remains. It must be approached responsibly, but its effectiveness cannot be denied.

Interesting facts
