World Heritage Day is a worldwide celebration of cultural heritage. There are hundreds of cultures on the planet that have an ancient history. During their existence monuments, temples, palaces, paintings and so on have been erected. We must cherish all this: people who destroy culture kill their own history and lose their humanity. The holiday is celebrated annually on April 18.
History
We have ICOMOS to thank for the creation of World Heritage Day. It initiated this day in 1982, and since then it has been celebrated annually. The main activity of ICOMOS is the preservation of monuments and sites for future generations.
The organization often sponsors the renovation or repair of historic buildings and structures in order to keep them in good condition. Without proper care, they will deteriorate due to natural factors. In addition, the organization helps to organize museum exhibitions in which visitors can view historical relics from different periods.
