World Thinking Day is an international holiday that brings together many aspects of human life: friendship, support, mutual understanding, equality, and more. It originally focused on girls and women in our society and was created by WAGGGS, but has a broader meaning today. It is annually on February 22.
History
The history of World Thinking Day dates back to 1926, when it was conceived as a holiday to support global sisterhood. It was created by the joint efforts of the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, who were members of a single association, WAGGGS.
The decision to create the holiday was made at Edith Macy’s New York camp. Representatives of the association chose as their date of celebration the birthday of Lord Baden-Powell and his wife, thanks to whom the movement was founded.
In 1999, at the Dubai Conference, the holiday was given international status. Every year there are various meetings, conferences, and other events devoted to global issues.
Interesting Facts
- Today, boys are also interested in scouting. Scouts go camping, gain practical knowledge and skills, socialize in the community, and improve their health through outdoor activities.
- In recent years, conferences have frequently raised issues of environmental conservation and gender equality. These are fundamental to creating an equal future for everyone.
