Talk Like A Pirate Day is a day that gives each of us the opportunity to unleash our inner Jack Sparrow. It is on September 19th.
History
The origin of the holiday is associated with 1995. Two friends from Oregon came up with the idea to create Talk Like A Pirate Day. It was all a joke they shared with their friends, who also liked the idea. In 2002, Dave Barry, a columnist for stand-up performances and other humorous programs, discovered this holiday. He found it amusing and wrote an article in a newspaper. After that, information about this day spread very quickly, gaining more and more fans throughout the United States.
The popularity of the holiday coincided with the time when films about Jack Sparrow were very popular. These became legendary, and the image of a dashing pirate won the hearts of many people. Of course, many of the words we interpret as pirate-speak were not at all the slang of real sea robbers. Today it doesn’t matter anymore! People are happy to celebrate Talk Like A Pirate Day, imagining themselves as dashing pirates, participating in various thematic events, and visiting amusement parks. The fun and carelessness of this holiday are its distinctive features.
Interesting Facts
- The romantic image of pirates as free and proud sea robbers is not entirely correct. Often, pirates were in the service of a state that allowed them to attack the ships of hostile countries.
- It is wrong to think that pirates were all bandits and robbers without a drop of education. Fools with a narrow outlook and lack of knowledge would not have lasted long on the high seas, and the captains were generally well-read and educated people.
