Celebrated on July 8, SCUD Day literally means ‘Enjoy the comics, turn off the drama.’ This holiday calls on you to let go of the dramatic moments of your own life for the sake of your physical and mental health. Instead, it is suggested to enjoy peace, positivity, and a good mood.
SCUD Day was founded by Stephanie West Allen in 2007. Allen had extensive legal experience and was a lawyer by training, and knew more than anyone how essential rest is. She also developed a bulletin that comes out every two weeks and talks about exactly how you can relax and escape from everyday worries.
- In 1929, Dr. Edmund Jacobson published the book Progressive Relaxation, which contains a set of procedures and exercises to relieve muscle and mental tension;
- The method of ‘autogenic training’ was developed in 1932, which allows you to teach the body to completely relax on command;
- Professor Herbert Benson demonstrated to the public his own method of relaxation in 1975, called the ‘relaxation reaction’;
- The International Journal of Stress Management reported in 2000 that the art of Tai Chi can improve one’s mood.
How to take part
On SCUD Day, you can use one of the many developed methods to relax. To distract you from anxiety and relieve fatigue, you can perform simple yoga exercises. You can watch a live performance of an artist or listen to a recording of it to improve your mood. Reading a pleasant book or comic, or watching a movie can also help in dealing with stress.
When is SCUD Day celebrated in 2023?
