National Winnie The Pooh Day is an American holiday created in honor of many of our favorite children’s cartoon characters. The birthday of A.A. Milne was chosen as the date of celebration. It is annually on January 18.

History

The cute little bear first appeared in 1924 in the December issue of the Evening Standard, which came out on Christmas Day. A complete book was published in 1925. In the stories about Winnie the Pooh, his friends also appear: a pig, a donkey, and a tiger cub.

The events of the stories take place in the old Ashdown Forest, which exists in reality. This area is quite diverse in terms of landscapes: glades, dense forests, and mountain ranges open up to the eye. If you look closely at Milne’s drawings, you can see how much attention to detail the author paid.

The Winnie the Pooh universe has become a massive popular phenomenon. At the same time, there was something quintessentially English in it, which endows the stories with a special charm.

• All the characters were drawn from toys that the author’s son had. His image can also be found in the works of Milne – there he appeared under the name Christopher Robin.
• Winnie the Pooh was one of the New York Times’ top-selling books in 1958.
• Researchers of Milne’s work believe that the Russian cartoon is the closest in spirit to the author’s original stories. Disney has significantly changed the images of the characters, making them unlike the author’s idea.
