Sacher-Torte Day is celebrated on December 5th in America and celebrates the delicious dessert so beloved by many Americans. It is famous not only in the USA, but throughout the world, it occupies the first lines in the ranking of popular delicacies. What about you?
History
A culinary masterpiece appeared 2 centuries ago and bears the name of its creator. Researchers have found many old cookbooks, they contain recipes for cake analogues, but the familiar product appeared later. And it was an accident! In 1832, Klemens Wenzel Lothar von Metternich, an Austrian diplomat and acting foreign minister, ordered chefs to create a unique dessert that would not be a shame to serve at a dinner party. The chief culinary specialist fell ill, so the tasks fell on the shoulders of the young and inexperienced Franz Sacher. As a result, he coped with the matter, but the treat did not make a splash.
Sacher unlearned and became a real ace and in 1848 returned to Vienna and completely removed himself from the culinary sphere. The man opened his own shop, where he sold fine foods and wine. The forgotten recipe for the cake was remembered by his son, Eduard, who works at the Demel confectionery. He prepared a delicacy, which brought together satisfied guests! Today, real Sacher-Torte can only be tasted in Vienna, although many countries have long created their own analogues.
Interesting facts
It is noteworthy that:
- Eduard opened the Sacher Hotel, which still receives guests today and is one of the most upscale;
- there were a lot of scandals around the cake, litigation – the owners of Demel sought to take away the rights to the recipe. In the end, they succeeded in a different way – Edward sold the rights himself in 1934 due to bankruptcy;
- more than 300 cakes are produced annually at the hotel, and other sweets are also produced here.
