Every year, National Edge Day is celebrated on October 17 by all those who want to change their lives for the better and give up cigarettes, drugs and alcohol. The rocker lifestyle is stereotyped as destroying one’s health through bad habits, but the Straight Edge movement proposes to change that. Supporters of this subculture refuse addictions, unhealthy food and promiscuity.
National Edge Day has been celebrated by Straight Edge supporters since 1999, when the first National Edge Day event was held in Boston, Massachusetts. The festival was called “Edge Fest”. The name Straight Edge itself is a term from the song of the same name by the hardcore punk band Minor Thread, which performed in the 1980s.
On the occasion of National Day, here are some interesting facts about the Straight Edge movement:
- followers of the movement not only give up bad habits, but also try to get new ones by regularly exercising and eating healthy food;

- on the back of the hand or on clothes they wear the sign “X”;
