National Day of Encouragement is an annual American observance that promotes offering support and kind words to others, on September 12th.
History
The National Day of Encouragement was initiated in 2007 by students at Harding University, who proposed a social project to address the negative impacts of the lack of support and encouragement. The date was selected in response to the need for national unity and encouragement following the September 11 attacks.
The holiday was first city-wide on September 12, 2007, after receiving official approval on August 22, 2007. It was later recognized statewide in Arkansas and proclaimed a national day of observance by the U.S. President in 2007.
