National Day of Celebration of Greek and American Democracy is an American holiday commemorating the independence of Greece and the ever-increasing relationship with the United States. We are confident that the relationship between the two countries will only grow stronger every year. The holiday is celebrated annually on March 25.
History
Throughout history, Greece has always been a target for enemies. The hardest time came in the mid-1500s when Turkey undertook to conquer the Greek lands thoroughly. By the second half of the 14th century, the country was completely overrun, and the military-feudal regime of Turkey was established over it.
The return of Greek independence began in 1770, when war broke out between Turkey and Russia. The first attempt was unsuccessful, but the Greeks did not stop, forming a resistance force. The historic event of the return of independence occurred on March 25, 1821. Since then, we have been celebrating the freedom and independence of Greece.
Mutually beneficial relations between the United States and Greece were established in the 1830s when Greece had already gained independence.
