On the third Saturday of August, we encourage you to be friendly to our four-legged friends. International Homeless Animals Day is the most important holiday for pets! Every year, the number of volunteers who treat animals with love and save lives is increasing. Join to make the world even better!
History
The problem of homeless animals exists in many countries of the world. For example, in America at the moment, there are more than 70 million pets in shelters!
In 1870, advocates for their rights considered laws against cruelty to dogs and cats. Unfortunately, the crimes have not stopped and in some places have even increased.
In the 20th century, supervision tightened: various projects were created to improve things. Today, people continue to fight and offer new solutions.
Some of the laws passed are: licensing of shelters (1986), humane euthanasia (1990), conditions of detention (1966).
Interesting Facts
Disappointing stats:
- 25% of street dogs are purebred;
- An unsterilized female dog can produce 16 puppies per year;

How to Take Part
On International Homeless Animals Day, go to a shelter and take your favorite animal home! Give them a peaceful and happy life.
If this is not possible, make donations to shelters or become a volunteer. Many organizations cooperate with people, giving them the opportunity to spend time with animals, walk, and donate necessary items.
Consider neutering and spaying to reduce unintentional breeding!
