Genius Day is an annual American holiday dedicated to Albert Einstein. It is observed on March 14. This extraordinary scientist made groundbreaking discoveries in several fields and laid the foundations for what later became quantum physics.
History
The date for Genius Day was chosen in honor of Einstein’s birthday. He was born on March 14, 1879, in the German town of Württemberg. From early childhood, he showed a strong desire for learning, which led him to earn a degree in physics and mathematics in 1901. This opened the door to teaching, and just four years later his first scientific works were published.
By 1914, Einstein had become a professor in Berlin and was deeply involved in scientific research. With the outbreak of WWII, he renounced his German citizenship and moved to the United States. There, he worked actively to help Jewish scholars escape persecution in Germany. Until the end of his life, Einstein remained committed to science and served as a professor at Princeton University.
Interesting facts
- Einstein’s most famous contribution is the Theory of Relativity, which played a major role in shaping quantum physics.
- Because of his discoveries, Einstein drew attention from intelligence agencies. The FBI monitored him for more than twenty years.
- Einstein published around three hundred works on physics, along with more than one hundred fifty books in various scientific fields.
