Coral Triangle Day

Coral Triangle Day is annually observed on June 9 to raise awareness about the rich marine biodiversity within the Coral Triangle and the urgent need for its conservation. Coral Triangle Day was launched in 2012 by the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF). Its aim is to highlight the environmental significance of the Coral Triangle and to promote its conservation. The date, June 9, follows World Oceans Day on June 8, underscoring the global importance of marine ecosystems. The inaugural celebration focused on showcasing the Coral Triangle as a globally significant ecoregion, inspiring conservation actions. Since then, the day has evolved into a platform for raising awareness and implementing sustainable practices to protect this vital marine area.
