World Water Day is an international holiday dedicated to water. This essential component plays a huge role for the entire planet: without water, humans and life on Earth could not exist. Human industrial activities have a negative impact on water resources, and this holiday aims to address this issue! Society needs to put all its energies into conserving water and improving its quality, otherwise the whole world is at risk! The holiday is observed every year on March 22.
History
The World Water Day initiative was first proposed in 1992 at the United Nations Environment Conference in Rio de Janeiro. A year later, it was officially approved by the General Assembly. Every year since then, various environmental and specialized organizations have met to address the issue of providing clean water to the entire population. Methods to reduce the level of pollution in various water sources are also being developed. Great attention must be paid to the modernization of purification systems. In many enterprises, it is possible to create closed water supply systems, where the required volume of water will be constantly filtered and immediately directed to the needs of the enterprise.
The issue of sanitation equipment is worth mentioning separately. It is acute in underdeveloped countries. Despite the presence of water, people simply cannot use it properly because it has not passed the necessary stages of purification.
Interesting Facts
- Today, about 783 million people do not have constant access to clean water.
- About 80% of wastewater is not reused after treatment. This is a very uneconomical approach.
- UNESCO studies have identified the country with the cleanest water—it is Finland.
How to Celebrate
Watch your water use. For example, when washing, give preference to lower water pressure. If you have small leaks somewhere (like water dripping from the faucet or the toilet not holding water), fix the breakdowns! The loss of precious fluids can be extremely great in a 24-hour period.
Spread the word on social media. Ask other users how they save water and whether they use additional cleaning methods.
