World Suicide Prevention Day was established with one goal – to draw public attention to the terrible problem of premature death. Statistics confirm that the number of suicides in the world is increasing and they are shocking – every 40 seconds someone voluntarily dies. This is about 800 thousand people in the world annually, but some sources indicate 2 million.
The problem of suicide is undoubtedly relevant, because among young people aged 14 to 30, it is the most common cause of death. Just think, for each suicide, there are up to 40 suicide attempts. Unfortunately, at such moments, a person is so absorbed in emotions that they forget about those who are dear to them, for whom they live. The mission of the holiday is noble – to give other people hope, motivation, the opportunity to live fully and manage their lives, and most importantly – to appreciate what they have. World Suicide Prevention Day was started in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention.
- The important day is sponsored by two organizations – the World Federation of Mental Health, as well as the World Health Organization.
- The phone number for people who are desperate was voiced by the rapper Logic in his song – 1-800-273-8255.
- One in fifteen adults in America suffers from depression, but fortunately, treatment is effective in almost 90% of cases.
- The older the person, the higher the likelihood of suicide.
