World Heart Day is dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular diseases—the most common and deadly conditions worldwide. Each year, around 17 million people die from these diseases. To promote education about the risks, prevention, and early recognition of heart issues, the World Heart Federation established World Heart Day, observed every September 29.
History
Heart disease affects millions of people globally, so this day was created to help reduce its impact or even eradicate it in the future. The World Heart Federation developed the program in partnership with the World Health Organization. The first World Heart Day took place on September 24, 2000. Until 2011, the observance was held on the last Sunday of September, but since then, it has been fixed on September 29.
