Recreation Day is a wonderful holiday that is celebrated every first Monday in November. The event is common in northern Tasmania and Australia. In 2022, the holiday falls on November 7th. Dedicate it to your favorite pastime, travel, recreation in the format you like.
It’s a day off, but the weirdest day off on the calendar. The event does not have an important historical event, a fascinating religious or cultural history. For a long time it was called “The Feast of the First Monday in November”. A change came in 1989 when all references to the event were removed from the Public Holidays Law. It was replaced by Recreation Day.
According to one version, the event appeared on the calendar with one goal – to balance the number of days off throughout the state of Tasmania. In the southern regions, the Royal Hobart Regatta is traditionally celebrated, in the northern part there is no such opportunity, so they came up with Recreation Day.
- First of all, it’s a day off. There are so few days off in the calendar of a modern person, do not miss the opportunity to enjoy an extra one.
- You have the opportunity to communicate with relatives and friends. Organize a party, go to the cinema, go bowling, take up a common hobby.
- You have the opportunity to join something rare and unique, this is exactly what Recreation Day is, because this is a holiday for only half the state.
How to celebrate
Plan ahead for your family trip. It can be a trip to a natural park, a water park, another country, or just to your family place. For many, the best form of relaxation is absolute relaxation, do not deny yourself this – order your favorite food in a restaurant and lie on the couch all day, watching movies or reading. Experiment – in the kitchen, in the interior, with your own style and appearance. Do something unusual on this day and be sure to share the fruits of your experiments on social networks.
