National Sneakers Day celebrates the comfort and versatility of one of the world’s most beloved types of footwear! On this day, people around the globe come together to appreciate the unique style of sneakers. Girls have been known to create interesting trends by combining sneakers with feminine dresses to create a perfect balance of style and comfort.
History
The modern sneaker has its roots in the 19th century when craftsmen first developed rubber soles. Initially, these shoes were not popular due to their lack of practicality and comfort. However, this all changed when an American inventor named Charles Goodyear discovered the process of vulcanization, which made rubber soles much more comfortable.
These new and improved sneakers were embraced by athletes and people with active lifestyles alike. Due to their quiet sole, these shoes soon acquired the nickname “sneakers,” as it became much easier to sneak up on people! In 1892, the American Rubber Company made their first sneaker, and in 1908 Marquis M. Converse marketed them to basketball players.
