National Bratwurst Day is dedicated to everyone who loves various sausage delicacies! Bratwurst is a sausage for grilling or frying. It comes from Germany, but also from Switzerland, Slovakia, Poland, and other countries.
History
Sausage usually comprises beef, pork, or veal, often served with mustard, sauerkraut, or potato salad.
According to historical data, the dish existed as early as 228 BC and was a success. It is not surprising it has survived to our days and is considered a delicious snack.
National Day was founded in 2013 by Johnsonville, the largest sausage company in Wisconsin.
Interesting Facts
- In different parts of Germany, sausages are prepared according to specific recipes;
- Some people think hot dogs and bratwurst are the same thing, but in fact, there are many differences;
- Traditional recipes use cream or eggs.
Bratwurst is prepared in accordance with the strict rules of the so-called ‘Meat Decree,’ which was created back in the 14th century. There used to be a ‘sausage controller’ that carefully checked the meat and qualifications of the butcher. If the inspector did not like the meat, he threw it away without hesitation, not paying attention to the butcher’s appeals.
