History

The first mention of bagels refers to the Jewish community living in Poland. This was at the beginning of the 17th century. There are good enough reasons to believe that such a dish was prepared much earlier. However, then it was not very common, and therefore information about it has not reached today.

Bagels were brought to the United States in the 19th century, when streams of immigrants of Jewish origin, who lived at that time in Poland, poured into the country. Most settled in New York. Therefore, this city became the source of distribution of bagels throughout America.

A variation of the bagel served with salmon had already been invented by immigrants to the US in the late 19th century. In this case, dried and salted salmon slices were used. They, in turn, came to America from the coast of Norway around the 1800s. The classic version of the dish was also complemented by cream cheese.

• The main feature of the bagel is a crispy crust and a very soft inside. If such conditions are not met, then it turns into an ordinary round bun.
• Salmon is an excellent source of protein and B vitamins. The meat of this fish is rich in fatty acids, including Omega-3.
