Mother’s Day is a very important holiday for Americans. It is a day to honor one of the dearest and closest family members – your mother. Mother’s Day is celebrated worldwide as an occasion to recognize mothers and motherhood. Although we shouldn’t need a special day to show our mothers that we love them, busy lives often cause us to take them for granted. We tend to forget to appreciate all the things our mothers have done and continue to do for us. That’s why we take advantage of Mother’s Day to thank her for being the best mother. One of the most cherished gifts on Mother’s Day is a bouquet of flowers.
History
The tradition of celebrating Mother’s Day began in the 1600s. Many poor people served wealthy families, living in servants’ quarters and rarely visiting home. However, on Mother’s Day, celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent, everyone was granted a day off to visit their mothers and offer their congratulations.
In the U.S., Mother’s Day was first promoted in 1872 by Julia Ward Howe, the author of the Republican anthem. She suggested dedicating one day each year to honor the women who give life to everyone.
In 1907, Philadelphia resident Anna Jarvis began the campaign to establish a National Mother’s Day. She persuaded the church to change the date, proposing the second Sunday in May. Although the event was organized, it was not initially recognized as an official holiday. Anna wrote letters to politicians, urging them to establish a national holiday, and in 1914, Woodrow Wilson signed a decree officially recognizing National Mother’s Day.
Give a Gift to Mom
Flowers are one of the best gifts you can give to a woman, including mothers. Giving flowers on Mother’s Day is a long-standing tradition. You can never go wrong with flowers, as no artificial gift can compare. Flowers are a natural way to make any woman feel special. They also symbolize love and affection. If you have other gifts to give your mom on this special day, flowers can make them even more meaningful.
However, flowers are less common as gifts today, making them harder to find. Thankfully, florists and online stores make it easy to order flowers. Shopping online is convenient and often more affordable. Many online florist shops offer flower and gift combinations specifically for Mother’s Day. Most have options to select from a wide variety of items. The best part is that these stores deliver gifts directly to your mom’s doorstep. Thanks to the rising demand, some online shops even offer same-day delivery, ensuring your gifts arrive on time. You can feel confident knowing that online businesses ensure safe and timely delivery of gifts.
With modern technology, sending Mother’s Day gifts can be done from the comfort of your home. All it takes is a little time to browse the Internet and find the perfect gift, something your mom will surely appreciate.
