World Plant Milk Day is celebrated every year on August 22nd. This is a great holiday that can attract the attention of many people to delicious and healthy vegan products. Also, everyone who suffers from lactose and casein intolerance, vegetarians and vegans, people on a diet who believe in fasting will want to mark it. Plant-based milk is a way out for them, it contains many useful substances for the body and can completely replace dairy products of animal origin in their diet.
World Plant Milk Day was celebrated for the first time in 2017. The initiative belonged to Robbie Lockey, co-founder of Plant Based News, an online publication covering sustainable products and smart consumption.
In 2018, thanks to the joint efforts of PBN and the international organization ProVeg, millions of people around the world became interested in the holiday. He drew their attention to the topic of moving away from animal milk and the wide range of alternatives.
Learn more about plant milk:
- By drinking milk of plant origin, you care about the environment. Livestock is one of the leading drivers of climate change, producing more greenhouse gases than all of the world’s transport. Switching from dairy to plant-based milk is one of the easiest ways to significantly reduce our impact on the planet.
- Different types of vegetable milk are produced from cereals (oats, buckwheat, barley, wheat, rice), legumes (soybeans), nuts (coconut, pistachios, hazelnuts, walnuts, cedar), seeds (pumpkin, sesame, sunflower, poppy, flax).
- Coconut milk is the most popular. In second place is soy. It is followed by almond, oat and cedar.
- Plant-based milk is low in calories and contains no bad cholesterol.
