World Lupus Day is dedicated to raising awareness about this autoimmune disease and fighting its impact. Lupus can develop due to various malfunctions of the immune system. There are approximately 5 million people worldwide living with lupus.
History
Lupus is a complex disease, with symptoms that vary from person to person. Doctors are still unable to pinpoint the exact cause of lupus. In individuals with this condition, the immune system cannot distinguish between pathogens and healthy tissue, creating antibodies that attack and destroy healthy cells.
Since 2004, health organizations have recognized May 10 as World Lupus Day. The main objective of the day is to raise awareness of the symptoms and consequences of lupus.
How to Take Part
The primary goal is to draw public attention to lupus and raise awareness. Here are a few ways to participate:
- Organize volunteer efforts, such as distributing information leaflets.
- With sufficient knowledge, you can give presentations to workplace groups and institutions.
- Host an informational flash mob on social media using the hashtag #WorldLupusDay to reach as many people as possible.
When is World Lupus Day in 2025?
