World Day for War Orphans is a special date that draws global attention to the ongoing armed conflicts around the world. Countless children are left without parents, deprived of a decent life, care, and affection. The situation can be changed, but it requires all of us to unite and take action.
History
The holiday was established by the French organization SOS Enfants en Détresse. Every year, they address the urgent problems faced by children who have lost their parents. The loss of parents is always a tragedy, but in times of war, the situation becomes even more dire. Currently, more than 400,000 children are suffering due to war—a figure that is double what it was 25 years ago. Save the Children published a document in 2020 stating that children are prime targets for kidnapping and sexual abuse, and unfortunately, these cases are on the rise.
The organization is also involved in improving education and healthcare, collecting donations, and helping young people cope with trauma. The foundation is active in more than 120 countries worldwide. Save the Children attracts new members each year and is determined to continue its mission.
