National Word Nerd Day is dedicated to all people who know and appreciate the importance of our mother tongue. The holiday is also celebrated by everyone who, at any convenient opportunity, is in a hurry to remind you that the word written in the letter is spelled differently, and in a conversation a person uses the wrong stress … Sometimes we consider such smart people to be boring, but they have a lot to learn!
Language arose with the appearance of people on the planet. At first he was primitive, but this did not prevent him from understanding others and agreeing on something. Over time, it has been improved and modified, and has come down to us in its best form. Writing in the medieval period was not available to everyone – it could be possessed by rich people. The rest were content with oral narration.
In the 18th century, everything changed: the teachings became accessible to the majority. It’s great that now we don’t have to save up a fortune to go to school and learn to read and write. By the way, scientists still have not been able to agree on where the language originated – their debates have always been characterized by excessive impulsiveness, turning into anger! In 1866, these discussions were literally closed, forbidding researchers to even think about it. Such an initiative was taken by the Linguistic Society of Paris.
National Day shows how important it is to know your native language. Every day we take it for granted, without thinking at all about its origins and the people who supplemented and improved it. Take it seriously and mark the date!
It is curious that:
- The UN has 6 officially established languages - English, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, French, Arabic;
- there are 700 languages in Papua New Guinea, more than 1000 in Africa;
- the oldest word in the English language is “town”;
- The alphabet in Hawaii has only 12 letters.
