National White Wine Day gives us the opportunity to enjoy our favorite alcoholic beverage. It may be that white wine has fewer fans than red wine, but no one will deny the sophistication and tenderness of its taste. And how well it refreshes in hot weather…
History
Wine made from white grapes appeared on the territory of modern Iran at least 7,500 years BC. It was loved by the ancient Greeks and Romans. Over time, it became popular throughout Europe, and by the 16th century, it had also come to America.
In the 18th century, champagne appeared – the most popular and celebratory variety of this drink, beloved by the elite.
It is not known why the date of August 4 was chosen for the holiday: history has not preserved evidence of the reasons and the founder. However, it seems logical that the day dedicated to a drink with such good refreshing properties falls in August.
Interesting facts
- Three hundred grapes go into one bottle of wine.
- The most famous white wine variety is Chardonnay.
- White wine can be made from red grapes – in this case, they must be peeled, as the skin gives the grapes their red color.
How to take part
Enjoy your favorite brand of drink or try something new. You can add spices to white wine or even make mulled wine from it. You can look for recipes for interesting cocktails.
Remember that this type of alcohol is best combined with seafood, fish, cold cuts, fruits, and cheeses with white mold. But with chocolate, sushi, and soy sauce, it is not customary to combine any kind of wine. You should also avoid blue cheese – it is better suited to red varieties.
