Society owes the appearance of National Polka Dot Day not to trendsetters, but to the charming girlfriend of the famous Disney character Mickey Mouse.

History

Caring about style and image, the adorable Minnie Mouse first appeared on the screen in 1928. The funny cartoon character won the hearts of children and adults. Her chic dress with red polka dots could not leave any fashionista indifferent.

In honor of Minnie Mouse, National Polka Dot Day was established. It is annually on January 22nd. It is believed that Mickey’s girlfriend’s outfit inspired some fashion designers to create collections of clothes and shoes with polka dots.

On the 90th anniversary of Minnie’s debut, a star with her name appeared on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The grand opening took place on National Polka Dot Day (2018).
