National Pet Wellness Month

National Pet Wellness Month is dedicated to our four-legged friends! Animals have long been full members of the family, so people are responsible for their well-being. A healthy lifestyle of a pet, timely visits to veterinarians, compliance with care recommendations are the key to a long and happy life of a pet.

History

The mid-1900s was a turning point for animals: they were no longer considered workers, they were taken into homes, cared for and raised. This state of affairs contributed to the development of veterinary medicine – in America there were more doctors and clinics providing disease prevention, treatment and examinations. Over time, the region has reached unprecedented heights.

In 2002, the PetFit program was launched, which became the first to improve pets. The idea was implemented by Purdue University with the support of the National Research Council of the National Academies. The team presented an eight-day campaign with consultations, examinations, training techniques, and instructions on proper nutrition.

For example, the most common problem in dogs is obesity. Due to the wrong food, the animal acquires a critical weight, which worsens its health in general. Pets who participated in PetFit gained normal body weight and kept the figure a year after!

Fun facts

7 things that will cheer you up:

  1. Male puppies often let their opponent win when playing with a female, even if they have a physical advantage.
  2. Cats have a breed similar to the Welsh Corgi – the Munchkin.
  3. Dog nose prints are individual – the same as a human fingerprint.
  4. Cats touch a person’s forehead to show their trust.
  5. Guinea pigs see the world in color.
  6. Parrots have monocular vision – they see with each eye separately.
  7. 95% of owners talk to their pets.

How to celebrate

The holiday was created in order for people to accept their responsibility for those whom they tamed. Take your pets for check-ups, buy a new toy or treat, learn more about parenting at workshops and lectures, volunteer and help out at help centers. Make a new friend and give him your love!
