National Pasta Day

October 17 is National Pasta Day, and October is National Pasta Month. Regular noodles are everywhere, but they are different from pasta, a traditional Italian dish. Every October, the world comes together to pay tribute to a delicious and versatile product.

History

This holiday was founded in 1995. 40 pasta makers teamed up for the first National Pasta Day. For some it will be a shock, but Hector Boiardi is not the inventor of pasta. According to legend, Marco Polo brought pasta from China in the 1200s. What is known for sure is that pasta gained popularity in the 14th and 15th centuries due to its ease of storage. People took pasta with them during the marine exploration of the New World.

President Jefferson ate what he later called “macaroni” while in Paris, but it could have been any type of pasta. In the United States, pasta gained popularity thanks to Italian immigrants who moved to America in the late 19th century.

Interesting facts

  • in 1700-1850 pasta was a staple in southern Italy;

How to celebrate

Make your own pasta at home or invite friends to cook together. If you want an American classic, then make macaroni and cheese. If you are not a fan of cooking, then you can always visit the restaurant with friends, relatives or alone. Try something new, order a pasta you’ve never tried before.
