I Love Horses Day

I Love Horses Day celebrates the special relationship between people and kind, sensitive horses every year on July 15th. Despite the fact that humans tamed horses in 4000 BC, this holiday has been for only a few years. Ever since they were domesticated, horses have performed many chores on farms. Every person who has ridden a horse understands how amazing these animals are. I Love Horses Day is dedicated to the close connection between people and horses.

History

The holiday is dedicated to horses that appeared on the planet about 50 million years ago. It is believed that horses originated in North America, but as a result of migration, they spread almost all over the world. Unfortunately, the earliest breeds of horses died out, but others appeared as a result of evolution. It is believed that all domesticated and wild breeds are descended from Equus caballus. Horses are incredibly sociable; they communicate not only with their own species but also with others.

Interesting Facts

  • Due to their sociability, horses are considered easy to breed.
  • Initially, horses were tamed for milk and meat; this animal was a valuable source of food for the tribes that roamed the steppes of Central Asia. Some tribes even prepared an alcoholic drink from mare’s milk.
  • With an increase in population, horses were used for work – cultivating the land, transporting goods, and later horse races and show jumping competitions were organized.
  • Horses have unique vision; they can see everything in almost 360 degrees, with their only blind spots being in the front and behind them.
  • Horses can sleep standing up and lying down. They usually have 205 bones, but Arabian breeds have fewer ribs and vertebrae in the lumbar region. Males and females have a different number of teeth; 40 and 36, respectively. The horse’s heart weighs 4.5 kg and is the size of a basketball.
  • According to statistics, the population of horses in the world is around 60 million individuals.
