Children are a nation’s future, and the principal idea behind International Children’s Day, established to give priority to the care and education of the younger generation. June 1 is filled with children’s laughter, and the best start to summer.

The History

This wonderful holiday was introduced at the suggestion of the Women’s International Democratic Federation, an event that took place in 1949 in Moscow. Children’s Day (the alternative equivalent name) is consistently celebrated in Russia, European/Asian countries, and in regions of Latin America and Africa.

Interesting Facts

This festive event has an official status in Laos, Cape Verde and Mongolia.

  1. The event is called Youth Day or Mother and Child Day in some countries.
  2. In 1925, a conference on the well-being of childhood was held in Geneva (Switzerland). It was a forerunner of this holiday.
  3. The UN recognized and documented the child’s right to protection, love, care, free education, food, and medical care, regardless of race and nationality.

Child should have the right to a full-fledged childhood, surrounded by loving and caring adults.

How to take part

  • Arrange outdoor games, give kids an opportunity to have some fun in the fresh air.
  • Take roller skates, skateboards, and bicycles and teach a child to ride and have fun. Do not forget about protective equipment for their elbows and knees.
  • Teach children new things: in the form of a game, they can get acquainted with the basics of interesting activities.

Millions of children in the world are deprived of the opportunity to get an education, go to school, and attend classes. Kids in conflict countries are starving; they often find themselves in bad company and engaged in criminal activity. It is important to create appropriate social projects and participate in charitable activities aimed at improving conditions for children.
