Girl Scout Founder’s Day is on October 31 in the United States of America. This special day celebrates the more than 100 years that the Girl Scouts have been making history and changing the state for the better. It is a day to recognize and celebrate the incredible impact that the Girl Scouts have had on the country.
History
The holiday is in honor of Juliette Gordon Low, leader and founder of the Girl Scouts. She took care of the first 18 girls and led the first troop in the state of Georgia in 1912. Juliette valued activities such as outdoor adventures, hiking, and education. She gathered information from other countries and shared it with the girls in her troop. The ultimate goal of her training was to equip the girls with the confidence and strength to face any situation in life. The girls learned to cook, provide first aid, read maps, take care of livestock, and even engage in military affairs. Juliette was a driving force behind the Girl Scouts until her death at 66. Despite pushback from society, she and the scouts persevered and proved to the world that this was the right thing to do.
