History
The first of these types of hotels opened in the northwest of France in 1990. Their favorable prices and excellent quality have been the driving forces behind their popularization. The idea then spread to other European countries, and there are now over 14,000 establishments worldwide. In July 2020 alone, there were 650 establishments in Germany! In Germany, the first bed and breakfast opened in 1998 in Ingolstadt, followed by a second one a year later in Genshagen. Additional cities such as Cologne, Hannover, and Leipzig were then added to the list, and there are now 153 such establishments in the state.
