Cookie Monster Day

Cookie Monster Day is a holiday dedicated to the beloved character that has had a major impact on many generations of Americans. Surely you know all the inhabitants of Sesame Street – this is Cookie Monster, Elmo, Grumpy Oscar, Big Bird. But today we are talking about only one character – Cookie Monster, who cannot live without his favorite chocolate chip cookie. But if there is no treat, the monster is able to eat everything that is nearby.

History

Cookie Monster Day is celebrated on November 2nd, the day in 1969 when Cookie Monster, created by Jim Henson, was first introduced. It is noteworthy that the character of the monster appeared in the series without a specific role, moreover, he did not have a name. Only in the second season did the character get his name and become a beloved hero.

Few people know that Cookie Monster’s television career began in 1966 – he was used in an advertisement for General Mills snacks, although the video did not air. In 1967, the monster was shown in an IBM training video about a self-destructing coffee break machine. Later, the prototype fairy-tale monster appeared in several commercials for the Munchos potato snack. It would seem that the character could continue to build an advertising career, but the Sesame Street project appeared.
