Business of Popping Corn Day is celebrated on December 2 in the USA. The holiday is dedicated to one of the most popular delicacies in the world, which we used to eat with an interesting movie or an exciting book. Did you know when the popcorn machine was invented?
We owe thanks to Charles Cretors, who invented and brought the popcorn machine to life in 1885. The event increased the popularity of the treat, which was offered at fairs and sporting events. During the Great Depression, it was consumed everywhere due to its low cost. Production stopped work at that time, and a serious crisis was felt in all industries. Along with popcorn machines, commercialization appeared, and subsequently, diverse devices were produced.
Surprisingly, researchers found traces of the dish in a cave located in New Mexico, and it has existed for about 5600 years! Two versions are also known. First, the Indians from North America first discovered the property of corn to explode and began to cook maize. The second says that this happened in Mexico, when the locals placed food on hot stones and received the finished product.
Did you know that popcorn:
- Contains a large amount of fiber and vitamins. It reduces blood cholesterol and improves digestion.
- Was used not only for food but also as a packaging material for the transport of goods. After such flights, it was used as cattle feed.
- On the Balkan Peninsula, it acts as a Christmas tree decoration.
- Has been sold since 1912 in movie theaters in America.
