World Day for War Orphans is a special date that draws the attention of the world to the armed conflicts taking place on our planet. Little citizens are left without parents, do not have a decent life, and are deprived of care and affection. The situation can be changed, but for this, we all need to unite!
History
The holiday was founded by the French organization SOS Enfants en Detresses. Every year they struggle with the urgent problems faced by deprived children. The loss of parents is always a tragedy; in a military situation, the situation is aggravated. More than 400,000 children are suffering right now because of the war; this figure is twice as many as 25 years ago. Save the Children published a document in 2020 stating that a child is a prime target for kidnapping and sexual abuse. Unfortunately, the number of such cases is on the rise.
The organization is also engaged in improving educational activities and medicine, collecting donations, and helping small residents cope with problems. The charitable foundation is registered in more than 120 countries of the world. Save the Children annually attracts new members and is not going to stop there.
