Recreation Day is a unique holiday on the first Monday in November in Tasmania, Australia. Dedicate this day to your favorite pastime, travel, or recreation in any way you like.
History
Recreation Day does not have an important historical event or fascinating religious or cultural history associated with it. For a long time, it was known as “The Feast of the First Monday in November,” but in 1989, all references to the event were removed from the Public Holidays Law and replaced with Recreation Day.
One version suggests that the event was added to the calendar to balance the number of days off throughout the state of Tasmania. While the Royal Hobart Regatta is traditionally in the southern regions, the northern part lacked an equivalent event, so Recreation Day was created.
Interesting facts
- Recreation Day is a day off, so don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy it!
- Use the day to get together with family and friends, organize a party, go to the cinema, or take up a common hobby.
- It is a holiday that is only in half of the state, so it’s a great opportunity to join something rare and unique.
How to take part
Plan ahead for your family trip. It can be a trip to a natural park, a water park, another country, or just to your favorite local spot. For many, the best form of relaxation is absolute relaxation, so don’t deny yourself this – order your favorite food from a restaurant and spend the day lying on the couch watching movies or reading. Experiment in the kitchen, in the interior, with your own style and appearance, and be sure to share the fruits of your experiments on social networks.
