History

Kool-Aid is a flavored drink mix that originated in Nebraska. It was created by Edwin Perkins, a talented inventor with a passion for experimenting. Even as a child, he spent hours in the kitchen mixing different ingredients. He later credited Jell-O and Coca-Cola as key inspirations in his pursuit of success.

Kool-Aid first went on sale in 1927. Early flavors included cherry, grape, orange, lemon, and raspberry—the latter being the inventor’s favorite. August was chosen for the celebration because it’s the perfect time to enjoy a cool, fruity drink during the summer heat.
