National Boston Day is an American holiday dedicated to one of the oldest and richest cities. Boston has a long history of ups and downs. This day is every year on January 16th.
History
The history of Boston begins with the founding of the city by immigrants from the Massachusetts colony. The founding date is considered to be September 7, 1630. Schools and colleges began to open in the established settlement. New people came here who breathed life into Boston, turning it into a large and prosperous city.
Boston’s seaside location quickly made it a center of commerce. From here, textiles, rum, fish, and tobacco were exported throughout America. In the second half of the 18th century, trade relations with St. Petersburg were established. The War of 1812 slowed down the development of the city for some time, but the merchants found a way out. In subsequent years, the industry was actively built and developed. Boston soon became the center of the leather and clothing industry.
Boston’s development progressed steadily until the early 20th century. Then the economic decline began: the industry was outdated, and people left the city in search of a better life. The city was able to recover from such a blow only in the 1970s when high-rise buildings began to be erected and production facilities were modernized. By the early 2000s, Boston had fully regained its title as an affluent city, where both industry and science thrived.
On National Boston Day, the city hosts various historical exhibitions, entertainment events, festivals, and more.
