National Ants on a Log Day

The annual American holiday National Ants on a Log Day was created in honor of the popular snack of the same name. Celebrated every second Tuesday in September, in 2022 it falls on September 13th.

History

The holiday started in 2014. At that time, two companies from the food industry applied to register the second Tuesday of September as Ants on a Log Day.

The appetizer itself is a very interesting dish. A stalk of celery is cut into two halves (this is the log itself), spread with peanut butter (log bark) and raisins (ants) are placed on top. The result is a plain and simple snack, but very tasty and, most importantly, healthy – there are no harmful ingredients in it.

Each component of the snack is very useful. Celery improves digestion, cleanses the body, and accelerates the recovery of damaged cells due to the high content of antioxidants. Peanut butter contains antioxidants, B vitamins (strengthens the nervous system) and many fatty acids that give the body energy. Raisins compensate for the lack of iron in the body and are an excellent source of B vitamins and minerals.

Interesting facts

  • Peanut Butter & Co, a peanut butter maker, and Duda Foods, a health food company, decided to celebrate this snack.
  • In America, this snack is often given to children after school to replenish the energy spent during the day.
  • If you don’t like peanut butter, you can replace it with soft cheese, chocolate fudge, or grated banana.
