Drawing Day is dedicated to the artist inside every person, reminding us all of the joy and freedom that drawing brings.
History
Drawing Day was founded in 2008 by the public organization DrawingDay. The holiday was created to remind everyone of those moments when we picked up crayons, pencils, or markers and created our own masterpieces. Drawing is a great way to escape from the routine of daily life, offering a creative outlet to express one’s inner thoughts and emotions.
Drawing is one of the oldest forms of artistic expression. The first known drawings, small carvings, date back to around 10,000 BC, found in ancient caves. The Egyptians painted scenes of daily life on the walls of their homes and temples. Similarly, the Greeks adorned pottery with drawings.
Once paper became widely available in Europe, drawing became even more popular. Many talented and famous artists emerged, using tools such as ink, pencils, chalk, and charcoal to create detailed outlines, shadows, and textures. Drawing evolved into a respected and cherished art form.
