International Day of Education

Education plays an important role not only in the life of everyone, but also in the world. In order for people not to forget about this, a proposal was made to found the International Day of Education. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Constitutions of all states provide for an article that states that every person has the right to education. Unfortunately, not everyone can use it in the modern world.

History

At the end of 2018, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution establishing the holiday. For the first time International Day of Education was celebrated on January 24, 2019.

The foundation of this holiday should contribute to raising the level of education, to interest the younger generation, who strive for knowledge, because without them humanity will not be able to develop along the intended path.

Every year, the UN considers new opportunities in the educational process. The technological process does not stand still and this should be taken into account when developing programs. Education is given a dominant role to ensure sustainable development against the backdrop of global changes taking place in the world. More recently, humanity has faced a terrible virus, but thanks to joint efforts, we managed to defeat the disease and learn how to deal with it. It is not known what surprises await people in the future, but a person must be prepared for anything.

Interesting facts

  • There are more than 600 million children and adolescents in the world who cannot read.
  • Among the adult population of the planet, about 750 million people are still illiterate.
  • Some countries do not respect the right to education. This mainly concerns refugees of school age, who are not taken to educational institutions.

How to celebrate

On the eve of the holiday, it is desirable for wealthy people to learn about problems in local educational institutions and, if possible, provide financial assistance by timing the act of charity to the International Day of Education.

Adults should not remain indifferent, perhaps one of the neighboring children does not attend school or constantly misses. It is worth discussing this with the child’s parents or guardians. If mutual understanding is not reached, address the problem to the competent authorities.
