Rumi Day

Rumi Day is a wonderful holiday dedicated to the life and work of the poet Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi, who is also known simply as Rumi. The modern world cannot be imagined without poetry – this is the soul of the world; these are the feelings and emotions of the world. Such talent has always been highly valued. It is not surprising a day dedicated to a brilliant poet appeared on the calendar.

History

The poet Rumi was born on September 30 in 1207. His parents were Persians living on the eastern border of the Persian Empire, in what is now Afghanistan. The boy grew up, received an education, and his life was bright and eventful. Rumi was a nobleman, a lawyer, an excellent scholar, and theologian. In the middle of the 13th century, Rumi met Shams, a wandering saint, and they lived together. The departure of Shams struck Rumi hard; he was devastated, and as a result, his eldest son brought the saint back from Syria. When Shams was killed, Rumi fell into a state of despair and the pain turned into poetry – the man wrote more than 70 thousand works.

• Rumi spent about 15 years on the creation of a collection dedicated to his mentor, Shams.
• Despite the fact the poet died in 1273, his memory still lives on.
• Rumi wrote on various topics; in his works, the topics of religion, life, death are touched upon.
• Admirers of his poetry include Madonna and Philip Glass. Madonna has even recorded Rumi’s poems, which she recites herself.
