Plush Animal Lover’s Day is celebrated on October 28th and is dedicated to those who cannot imagine their life without soft toys. Not just kids; many adults enjoy having a silent companion and there are even collectors who collect various toys.

History

It is unclear who founded the holiday, however there is a legend that suggests a certain collector’s item dealer, Royal Selangor, came up with the idea in the 1980s and it was widely accepted. In ancient times, people often created things in the image of animals, such as figurines carved from wood or images of pets painted in pictures to be preserved in memory. Rag dolls in the form of animals were first seen in Roman times but they were intended for children from the poor due to the lack of detail.

The first modern toys were created in 1880 by Margaret Steiff, who designed stuffed elephants in the form of coasters. After 6 years of work, about 5 thousand pieces were sold and children fell in love with the products.
