World Day of Theater for Children and Young People

World Day of Theater For Children and Young People is an international holiday that promotes theater among children and young people. It allows you to instill a love of high culture from childhood, so that a person grows up not only educated, but also culturally developed. It is celebrated every year on March 20.

History

This holiday was established thanks to the initiative of ASSITEJ, an organization that has been working diligently for many years (founded in 1965) to promote theater among children and young people. This holiday was created not only to popularize theater at such an early age, but also to identify talented children and adolescents who can later prove themselves in acting.

The day was first celebrated in 2001. Since then, every year on March 20, people working on theatrical productions have come together to develop theater and promote it among children and young people.

Interesting facts

  • Since ASSITEJ’s initiative, every three years a major festival is held dedicated to various kinds of arts (theater, among others). Each time the venue changes. The festival was held in Rostov, Warsaw, Seoul and many other cities in different countries.
  • It is believed that the first full-fledged theater dates from the 5th century B.C. in Athens. It consisted of actors performing small skits. Was an indispensable element of various holidays and celebrations. The art of theater developed greatly in Europe during the Renaissance.
