World Brain Tumor Day
June 8, 2022
World Brain Tumor Day aims to draw public attention to this serious problem. Also, this day is informational. People who have the disease, as well as those who care for the sick, are told what to do in certain situations. After all, much of the information available on the Internet is not always correct and reliable.
A brain tumor is the development of abnormal cells that cause brain damage and can lead to death. One of the problems with this disease is that it may be asymptomatic at first, and when a diagnosis is made, it may be too late for effective treatment. About 1.5 million patients suffering from a brain tumor are registered in the world. This is a fairly large number. Unfortunately, every year the number of cases increases. The number of deaths from this disease is also on the rise. It really carries a very serious risk for people.
In this regard, World Brain Tumor Day was created. The German Association of Brain Tumors started it, and in 2000 called for such a day to raise awareness among citizens. On this day, hospitals, health institutes, volunteer centers, and oncology clinics take on the greatest responsibility, by holding information events online and offline, of telling people about the symptoms, treatment, as well as all the actions a person needs to take when a brain tumor is detected.
What is important to know about this disease?
- Doctors cannot name the specific cause of the tumor. Many factors can influence this.
- If the patient has primary stage cancer, treatment may be effective. In such cases, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy are usually prescribed. In the last stages of cancer, treatment rarely works.
- With a brain tumor, the patient is advised to reduce exposure to the sun, as the sun’s rays increase the risk of developing abnormal cells.
